Squad number 12 has been filled for the commencement of the new season by striker Ayo Faniyan who has impressed during pre-season matches having returned from injury. Most of you will know that Ayo suffered a serious injury last September playing for United at Hythe Town in the FA Cup, since then he has really put the work in to regain his fitness and as we have seen in pre-season he looks to be well on the way to becoming a regular member of Ritchie Hanlon's first team squad.
Supporters are invited to a pre-season Q&A with Manager Ritchie Hanlon. This will take place at the SKYex on Wednesday 2nd August at 7pm where you can get an insight from Ritchie on how he sees things going into the new campaign plus you will get a chance to ask him questions. For those of you unable to attend, please send your questions by e-mail to co-ordinator Kelly Matthews via the e-mail below and she will ask the questions for you and the answers will then be published on the clubs social media platforms. kelly.matthews@hyufc.co.uk
With Jack Smith unable to play during pre-season, manager Ritchie Hanlon has boosted the goalkeeping ranks at United as Jacob Adams re-signs. Jacob started as United's undisputed number 1 last season before injury against Farnborough led to a succession of loan signings, he then returned only to suffer a further injury which led overall to United fielding nine different 'keepers last season including Jacob. He now returns fully fit looking to challenge once more for that starting position in the United goal as the new season approaches.
Due to cricket being played on the ground adjacent to Sholing FC on the original matchday, our fixture in August has been pushed back 24 hours and will now take place on Sunday 20th August.
Sadly tomorrow evenings friendly at the SKYex against Welling United has been cancelled. A few niggles in the United squad coupled with the oppositions late decision to only field a development side renders the game of little use so the decision has been made to cancel the fixture.
Having played through pre-season as Trialist J, Manager Ritchie Hanlon has this week signed striker Sam Ashton and he will fill squad number 9 going into the new campaign. We welcome Sam to the SKYex and hope your stay is successful here with Hayes & Yeading United.
It is with great sadness that Hayes & Yeading United have this week received notification that regular supporter Peter Collings passed away a few weeks ago. The following tribute has been received from his sons Nick & Justin. We are writing to notify you that our father, Peter Collings who was a loyal Hayes & Yeading FC fan, suddenly and sadly passed away on 13th June 2023. He really enjoyed attending home matches, especially on a Saturday afternoon with his friends and family. Dad looked forward to pre-game drinks in the club bar, followed by sitting in his favourite section of the stand. Not only were our Dad’s visits an opportunity to watch his team play, but also a chance to meet up with his long-term friends Malcolm Robinson and Geoff Pike where they would have a good chat and catch up on events. This meant a great deal to him. Peter was especially amused that Malcolm used to play football back in the old days with the current Hayes & Yeading FC Director of Football Tony O'Driscoll, although Malcolm was the senior team member. Peter’s funeral was held on Monday 17th July 2023 at the Breakspear Crematorium. We gave a tribute to him during the service and mentioned Peter’s fondness for his team and the joy it gave him. We are all going to continue to watch our team Hayes & Yeading FC this upcoming season, but with our father missing. We miss him every day but know that when we are sitting in the stands encouraging our team to win, he will also be looking down on us all cheering our players on. Warm regards, Nick & Justin Collings On behalf of all at Hayes & Yeading United I offer our deepest condolences to all of Peter's family and friends at this sad time.
