United bounced back in fine style after a couple of controversial defeats in recent weeks. Having travelled in excess of 700 miles in eight days for three consecutive away games, it was nice to be back on a decent playing surface at the SKYex and unfortunately for Wimborne Town we took it out on them, scoring eight, missing a penalty and having three ruled out for offside. Manager Paul Hughes shuffled his pack after the exertions of the past three games, played in the main on heavy pitches, but this didn’t stop the steamroller from finding its way again. The visitors actually started quite brightly and with five minutes played a double block by the United defence stopped Harry Morgan and Lewis Beale from troubling Ravan Constable in the United goal. United soon took a strong stranglehold on proceedings however, a forwards pass was chested down to Elis Watts but his shot from the edge of the box was held by Wimborne Academy ‘keeper Reece Mitchell who was making his debut for the visitors. The deadlock was broken on 12 minutes and not surprisingly it was the on fire Moses Emmanuel who put United ahead, the striker heading home a perfect cross from Jack Williams that cleared Mitchell and the defenders in the middle and found Emmanuel who headed home at the far post. In the 24th minute United doubled the lead with much assistance from the visitors as a cross from the left was sliced into his own net by Wimborne’s Curtis Young giving Mitchell no chance. On the half hour mark United were denied a third by Mitchell, Charlie Wassmer won a tackle deep in the United half of the field, the loose ball was collected by Emmanuel who slid Francis Amartey through only for the striker’s effort to be well saved by the Wimborne stopper. Just a minute later the visitors got themselves back in the hunt as a left wing cross was headed away but dropped sweetly to the feet of Morgan who took a touch and volleyed the ball into the corner of the United net from just inside the box. Conceding seemed to just push United on and within four minutes the two goal advantage was restored as Emmanuel raced forwards before pulling the ball back to Watts who took a touch before smashing an unstoppable shot past Mitchell for the Aldershot loanees first United goal. With six minutes of the half remaining United bagged a fourth, a second for Emmanuel who having been set free by Amos Nasha advanced on Mitchell and coolly slid the ball into the visitors net. The final chance of the half saw Watts again in possession in the visitors’ area, a defenders touch took the ball away from him but only as far as Williams who cleared the crossbar by inches from 30 yards out. United came out looking for even more and within ten minutes of the re-start United took their tally to six as Emmanuel netted his second quad-trick of the season. His second came on 51 minutes as he slotted home having been sent through by Rowe and just three minutes later Amartey cut inside from the left to make space for a shot, his low effort was fumbled by Mitchell with Emmanuel quickest to react and poke home his 27th of the campaign. Two minutes later Amartey was again denied by Mitchell, the young stopper doing well to push away the United strikers near post drive. The visitors had a great chance to reduce the arrears in the 58th minute as Lewis Beale broke away and was adjudged to have been tripped by Ben Frempah just inside the United area with referee Parkinson pointing to the spot. Beale picked himself up to take the kick only for Constable to dive full stretch to push his effort away and the scoreline remained at 6-1. Just past the hour mark Mitchell made his best save of the game, Amartey played the ball inside from the right to Emmanuel who turned his marker and unleashed a fierce goalbound drive that took a deflection with Mitchell reacting brilliantly to tip it over at full stretch. A minute later Constable saw some more action as Beale broke away from midfield, Williams did well to chase him down and stop him getting through on goal, he did however manage to roll the ball back to Bouwe Bosma but his effort was saved by the diving United ‘keeper. This was soon followed by a golden chance for number seven for the hosts after Amartey was tripped in the box, referee Parkinson again pointed to the spot, this time for United. Rowe stepped up but despite sending Mitchell the wrong way, his effort came back off the upright before being cleared away. Number seven however was not far away, on 76 minutes a smart pass through the middle sent Amartey away and he needed no further invitation as he raced past two defenders before slotting the ball calmly beyond Mitchell into the visitors net. As the game closed out there was still time for another good save from Mitchell and another United goal. In the 88th minute debutant United striker Kaylen Hinds set up Daniel who fired in a shot from 20 yards that Mitchell did well to push wide but he could do nothing as the clock struck 90, Cole Brown fired in a superb cross from the right that was crashed home on the half volley by Jordan Norville-Williams, all in all a rather good night at the, somewhat cold, office. Suffice to say this result was a record score for United at step 3 and just a single goal from equalling the all-time club record victories which stand at 9-1 away at Arlesey Town and Hanwell Town. It was also our biggest home win in all competitions since the clubs formation in 2007. Report by Kevin Watts. Print the Teamsheet: Here.
