For the fourth consecutive visit to the Ian Moorcroft Stadium United came home with a point that unfortunately was not enough to stop Mark Molesley’s side dipping into the relegation zone as the game saw a couple more injuries added to the already lengthy list. Unfortunately on such an awfully bumpy pitch where the balls bounce was totally unpredictable this was never going to be a classic and that the way it panned out with both goals coming in fortuitus circumstances. An eighth minute Jerry Lawrence for the hosts that just cleared Jacob Adams crossbar was the sole goal attempt in the opening 25 minutes however a minute later United had the lead. Having been awarded a free-kick between 20-25 yards from goal, Lewis Kinsella stepped up and fired past the wall and Tivvy ‘keeper Zak Baker only for his effort to come off the underside of the bar, strike Baker and roll back into the net for an unfortunate own goal. The closest either team came to changing the score came six minutes from the breal when the host’s Dylan Jones sprung free down the right side, his fired in centre flew across the United six yard box without a touch from either side and flew harmlessly out for a throw-in on the far side.
That closed out chances in the half with little to keep the voices of either set of freezing fans going, maybe the second half could warm things up, or maybe not! Two minutes after the break a nice quick move up the right flank by Tobias Braney and Cole Brown saw the latter fire the ball towards an on-coming Michael Fernandes in the box but the home defence did well to intercept the ball just before the United man arrived and the danger was cleared. Almost ten minutes later the home side should potentially have been level as a deep Jones cross from the right was headed back into the mix to Josh Jones but the defenders header from six yards out went sailing over the United crossbar. On 65 minutes the ball was in the United net and the hosts were level as United failed to clear the ball from inside their own box and Jerry Lawrence fired in a shot from the edge of the box that took a wicked deflection to deceive Adams and flew into the United net. Thereby followed 20 minutes of very little goalmouth action until the 85th minute when the home side fired in a low cross from the left that Adams did well to anticipate and gather at the feet of an on-rushing Jevan Wright. With a minute of regulation time left it was United who were to have the last notable chance of the game when a Kinsella free-kick from the middle of the park dropped to Braney but his effort from the edge of the box was off target and the seven minutes of additional time were played out without incident and United came home from Devon with a deserved point.
